2016 – InterSearch & Market

At the end of February all 51 of the InterSearch countries collected in Cape Town for our annual conference. The Middle East sent the strongest party of delegates, comprising Mohammed Al Kharusi and Daniel Robinson from our Oman office, as well as John Robinson, Nick Harvey, Harris Karaolides and Samantha Robinson from our UAE office.

Although Cape Town is a beautiful and interesting place, that is not why we were there. The InterSearch partners meet every year to discuss trends in recruitment, discuss the global economy, initiate programs to improve our services to our clients, and build good relationships with our global Partners.

At the end of the Cape Town conference we came up with a number of global initiatives that will help each Partner to improve our effectiveness for our clients in executing those executive search assignments that are critical to the future success of your business. I will discuss these initiatives in more detail in later Newsletters.

Also, in general the InterSearch Partners were not as pessimistic as many experts are on the prospects for the world economy. Naturally, the low oil price is directly affecting government future spending capacity, especially in oil & gas exporting countries. But many governments are taking the opportunity to initiate fundamental shifts in their taxation and subsidy structures, moving to a more sustainable model that will be more robust and less dependent on such cyclical measures as the price of oil.

InterSearch Partners around the world are reporting a drop in search assignments for many of our clients in upstream energy production but at the same time an increase in the needs of our clients’ midstream and downstream as added-value and diversification projects continue to be approved.

We are also seeing the need for overseas experts in such field as taxation that can advise our government clients here. As a truly global organisation, InterSearch is in a good position to advise on the selection and appointment of such experts and we are already doing that for clients in the GCC.

So, we look forward to a successful 2016 for all of our clients in the Middle East and all of our Partners and friends around the world.

John Robinson
Managing Director, InterSearch Middle East
